Ideas from the Organizer's House

Winter Gloves
and Hats

A couple of baskets on the closet shelf make it easy to store winter gloves and hats until needed again.

Wraps and Bags

I know I'm lucky to have an extra drawer for these. If you don't, use an organizer for wraps inside of a door. I keep the rubberbands and twist ties handy in this tub. They are always in demand in the kitchen..

Holiday
Decorations

This is the spring box. I've limited myself to one box for the spring season including Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and Easter. After all, a little dab will do ya!.

Attic

That attic is hot! I try to limit needing to go up there. Like items are stacked together: holiday, luggage, family keepsakes and so forth.

Sheets

Finding the queen or twin sheets can lead to a jumble. Using baskets in my linen closet helps to divide them.

Bulk Food

Shopping in bulk saves time and money. It's hard to know where to store amounts that won't fit in a normal pantry. I added shelves to my laundry room for bulk purchases.

Closet

One of the secrets to an organized closet is matching hangers. They aren't expensive and don't tangle easily.

image

Table Linens

I found table linen storage by repurposing an old desk. It holds napkins, placemats, tablecloths and runners.

Desktop

Desk clutter includes necessary items. I added a paper sorter to my desk to hold printer paper, envelopes and supplies without taking up too much space.

Photos

Inexpensive bookshelves in the closet allow me a place to store photo albums, photo boxes, yearbooks and other keepsakes.

image

Guest Bath

An empty drawer in the guest bath becomes an organized space of extra supplies they might need.

image

Garage

An inexpensive pegboard is still a trusty organizer. I've put the most used hand tools on the board for quick access.

Recipes

Cooking and recipes is a favorite hobby. I love to clip or print recipes. The ones that I liked enough to repeat go into a binder.

Emergency

In the middle of the night or during a storm, I want to be able to reach for a flashlight. This drawer near my bed contains a flashlight, transistor radio, extra batteries, candle and matches.

image

Music

Having music accessable doesn't mean it has to be visable. The CD collection is in drawers.

image

Medications

Digging through a medicine cabinet when you have a stomachache or headache is no fun! In labeled, see-thru pockets, we can easily find the medicines that are needed..

image

Wrapping Paper

This handy container holds rolls of paper. The side pocket, holds folded sheets, divided with file folders. You can also use a tall kitchen trash can.

image

Tablecloths

Rushing about for a company dinner and finding wrinkled linens is frustrating. I've found hanging them reduces wrinkles...and stress!

Garage Clutter

So, who doesn't have garage clutter? I've rounded up the doo-dads of home maintenance into bins. There are two for paint supplies, one for gardening, another for chaulks and adhesives and so forth. Since I need these things, I better put them where I can find them.

Container
Gardening

Organizing isn't just about lining things up...or labeling things. It is about creating time to do what you love...like my love of container gardening. Here are my front porch petunias.

Recycling

Thankfully, recycling is here to stay so a permenant solution for recycle clutter was in order. I've adapted my kitchen for the two categories our city collects. In order to have two pull-out cans, I had to knock out a shelf in this lower cabinet. .

Disaster Readiness

Hurricane season keeps us on our toes in Florida. In order to keep supplies on hand, keep them from being consumed and have them ready to go, they are packaged in grocery bags and stored in the laundry room.
